Magadan
Location
Magadan is the capital of the Magadan Region in the Russian Far East. It is a port city on the Sea of Okhotsk.

Economic Activity
Magadan has canning factories, shipyards, and a major airport. There is also a highway that leads from Magadan to the gold mining region on the upper part of the Kolyma River.
Overview
In the years known as the Stalin era, Magadan was used as a major transit center for prisoners that were on their way to labor camps.
